Final Goodbye

To summarize my experience of this English online class, I would say this was a very interesting course.  This online class was fun and I really enjoyed taking this class online.  I  thought this online class would be hard but turned out to be very interesting and I really liked everything about this online class.  This class has taught me a lot and this will really help me out in the future.  Even though this class was online, I felt as if I was actually in a classroom setting when doing assignments for this class because the professor made the class seem real.  This online class was an enjoyment for me and I would say that this has been a very beneficial experience taking this English class online.  I really liked everything about this class and it has been a thrill to take this class.  Mr. B you are a great teacher and you made the class very interesting, and I really appreciate you for that.

Reality

My definition of reality would be things that actually exist, that has existed, and also including what is in the mind.  Explaining my definition, reality is something that you can actually feel.  You can feel things like suspense, happiness, remorse, and other sorts of things that do with the emotion.  Reality also are the tangibles or things that can be touched or felt in a physical state of mind.  To me, you read, experience, and visualize reality in all aspects of life.  Whether it be watching television, reading a book, or just visualizing something in your mind.  These all define what reality is and because its something that you can feel is happening.  To sum it up reality is something that we visualize through everyday life situations and can be felt whether it be physically or emotionally.

Extra Credit!!!

Organization

This is organized in steps to show that one has to take one step at a time to reach the end or the goal. You start at the bottom of the step then you take each step gradually as you move ahead. This image can resemble brainstorming which is below the first step, then picking a topic which could be step one then, writing the paper and so on. As you can see you have to take each step in order to get to wherever you want to get to.

More Rhetoric

As a Clemson student I know that almost everybody on this campus has walked by this statue right in front of Bowman field. For those who don't know, this is the military heritage plaza located in front of Tillman and the statue is a symbol of the journey from cadet to a soldier. This statue is really unique and if you look closely you can see the transition. Built in 1996, it was a gift from the classes of 1950, 1951, 1952 and 1953.

2 Questions

Is there really an increase in anorexia nervosa and other related eating disorders?

What are our current theories of the etiology of eating disorders and why are they inadequate in explaining the increase in this phenomenon?

Good and Bad Websites

This is an example of a bad because you really don't know what's going on in this website and the design of this website is not the best of ideas to use. It is not professional to be a university's website.

This is an example of a good website because it's pretty straightforward and show's you the current news, and is easy to navigate. This is professional and get's you what you want with no unwanted things coming up.

Magazine Image

Magazine

There is a lot of visual rhetoric in this picture of the NBA Finals game when the two opponents Dallas and Miami faced off. In this picture alone the words rising above says a lot about the picture that you see in this image. The cover story relates a lot to the image in many ways. During the NBA Finals most people thought that Miami would take home the championship, but a lot of people were shocked when Dallas pulled out with the championship. Like the title of this article which is rising above, the Mavericks rose above the challenge and defeated the Miami Heat. During the series the Miami Heat looked as if they would win the NBA Finals because they took an early 2 game lead on the Mavericks in a series of seven, but the Mavericks showed perseverance and showed that they wouldn't give up as easy as Miami thought they would. But through the lone star power of Dirk Nowitzki, the Mavericks came back and made the series interesting by tying the series 2-2 and then eventually going on to win the NBA Finals. The image and cover story relate because it basically tells you what is going to happen. With the words under the picture, you can already get a glimpse of what's about to be said in this article. The image and cover story in this magazine really go together and helps the reader to better understand what is happening in this article.

Book Sources

Handa, Carolyn. Visual Rhetoric in a Digital World: a Critical Sourcebook. Boston: Bedford/St. Martins, 2004. Print.

This will help me in seeing the argument that my research topic is arguing when I find out what my topic will be.

Hornbacher, Marya. Madness: a Bipolar Life. Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 2008. Print.

This topic is about anorexia and bulimia, which my possibly be one of my topics for my research paper.

Should college athletes have to go to school? My argument would be yes, because school is just as important as the sport that athletes play. It should be just as important because you want both programs to look outstanding and they should be held to the same expectations. Like the commercial on television says, there are over 400,000 student athletes and most of them will go pro in something other than sports. Every athlete can't go pro but every athlete can get a good education while in school. The statement above from the television commercial should be like a mission statement letting athletes know they all can't go pro in a sport but you can in a the career path you choose. So athletes should be held up to task of performing on and off the field, and should also put the effort they put in their sport as well as in the classroom.

A Run Into

So I didn't think I would meet any of my classmates in this English class but I happened to run into Katie Lanza at me and my girlfriend birthday party. I was surprised to found out that she was in the same class as me. We talked about class and the other subjects she was taking and that's about all of our conversation that we had. It was nice to meet Katie in person and I will probably see her around sometime.

Possible Research Topics

Should Athletes be paid in college?

How should colleges manage their athletic programs in relation to their academic goals?

Have the large salaries of professional athletes had a negative impact on the athletes or the sports?

Couldn't figure out how to get the the bubble chart from bubbl.us to here. Still trying to figure it out but just wanted to show my possible research topics first so it wouldn't be late.

Does it Suck

Democrats don't suck. Democrats always have the people or society in mind when it comes to making important decisions.

Barack Obama doesn't suck. Barack Obama has made history with becoming the first African American president.

Harry Potter doesn't suck. Harry Potter is a good actor and I like the books and movies.

Apple sucks. Apple is always having good inventions but they also always have issues with their products.

Star Wars sucks. Star Wars was just entertained most people and I liked the video games, and not the movies.

Facebook sucks. Facebook is being topped by Twitter and I'm on Twitter more than Facebook.

McDonald's doesn't suck. McDonald's is a good fast food chain and has really good food.

Clemson University doesn't suck. Clemson University is an awesome place to further your education.

Lady Gaga sucks. I don't keep up with her and all her crazy things she has going on.

Justin Bieber doesn't suck. Bieber is getting his shine and making some good things happen.

Slide 12 sucks. Basically because I don't know what it is.

Avatar doesn't suck. Avatar is a good movie and I really liked it.

XBOX 360 sucks. XBOX 360 sucks because the buttons on the controller are all over the place.

American Idol sucks. Basically because it throws away good talent and is very biased.

Glee sucks. Basically because I don't watch it and don't like musicals because the acting is so fake, and their not really singing the songs they play.

Marlboro sucks. Basically because they are bad and I don't see how you smoke cigarettes.

Guns suck. Guns suck because we don't need all this violence in the world today.

Abortion doesn't suck. It depends on the situation and why people want one.

Dressed dogs suck. Dressed dogs are not cute and people know the dogs don't want any clothes on them.

Writing Process

The writing process for the rhetoric paper is going well so far. It's kind of hard to for to write because I always have a difficult time starting off they paper, but as soon as I get started then everything just flows right in and makes the paper easier to write. After I figured out what my introduction was, its almost like the paper wrote itself from there on out. To me, there's not a specific place I have to be to start writing a paper. I just have to find the motivation to help me write the paper and I'm good to go from there. If I had to pick a specific place to write a paper it would be in the library or just sitting down alone where ever I am at. What really helps me with writing a paper is motivation. If I can be motivated to write the paper then it's really not that hard to write a paper. For this paper on rhetoric, it took me awhile to get started because I couldn't choose what advertisement I wanted to do. This took the longest process because I wanted to write about something interesting and that is commonly seen today. My process for righting this paper was pretty simple. I just had to find an ad that was interesting to me and that I could write about. After I found the ad about the verbal abuse it really made it easier to write because I could relate more to that subject. The writing process was fairly easy for this rhetoric paper and it helped me see how to analyze things more in depth.

Dissoi Logoi: Crocodiles

Crocodiles are majestic, powerful, and amazing creatures. They are huge reptiles that attack their prey with skill and precision. In ponds, crocodiles have a good hiding place because they basically blend in with their environment and this helps them with getting food because prey will come up not knowing the crocodile is there. They have big tails that help them move swiftly through the water. Crocodiles also have strong jaws and have tremendous force coming from their jaws so once their prey is in, it’s pretty much over for them. They usually live long lives and they are dominant in their habitat.

Crocodiles are ridiculous looking, silly, and lame creatures. They live in marshes and swamps which are nasty, and they also have very dry rough looking skin which kills its appearance. Crocodiles can be either a grayish or green color which is not the prettiest of colors. Crocodiles also have stubby little legs which make them seem almost midget like in appearance especially supporting their big body frames. They are lame because they just sit around watch and they don’t really do anything special.

Juicy Fruit!!!

1. dry
2. yellow
3. juicy
4. fruity taste
5. taste like banana
6. loses flavor quick
7. long rectangle shape
8. has designs on the outside of the stick
9. hard
10. its good
11. leaves a funny after taste

I know I won’t be the bomb with so few observations. Juicy Fruit definitely let me down because I thought I was going to get more observations in with 3 minutes on the timer but I don't think I will get to be the bomb this time.

No Plagiarism

As we all already know plagiarism is taking someone else's work and using it for your own without giving them the credit that it's their work. Not plagiarizing is important to me because you shouldn't make anything that's not yours be your own because its just like stealing. When you plagiarize you steal someone else's work and make it as if you said it yourself. When you plagiarize it's like throwing someone's hard work and research down the drain and making it seem as if you yourself actually found what you are talking about. I promise I will not plagiarize someone else's work because I will make sure that I give whoever's work I'm using credit for whatever research they did. It's not that hard to give the person whose work you are using credit, and I always make sure if I use someone else's work I give them the credit because it's their finding and not mine. I won't plagiarize somebody else's work because you have to give them credit for what information that you are researching and it makes more sense to give the person the acknowledgment that you got your information from them. Plagiarism is a bad thing and you can avoid it by just giving the person credit for what they found or researched. It's a piece of cake as people say nowadays and like Nike says, “just do it”. I promise not to plagiarize any information that I research that another person should deserve the credit for.

Rhetoric Blog

The intended message of this image has a plethora of origins. The possible viewpoints through which this ad was meant to be interpreted are endless. It could be coming from an individual who is anti-smoking, this could come from someone who is trying to convince others to stop smoking or it could even be the media’s take on cigarette/smoking in general. While countless ideas could arouse in regards to this image, most notably the main message in which is trying to be conveyed is the voice of “Anti-Smoking/Cigarettes.” Although the central theme of this image is to STOP SMOKING, there is another element of the image. The image is not of just cigarettes but made to look as if the cigarettes were components of a ticking time bomb. The text of the image reads “it’s ticking”, as to say cigarette smoke could lead to your explosion. The image was developed to create a sense of urgency about the harmful effects of smoking. It could even be argued that the cigarettes were made to resemble dynamite, and that with each additional cigarette, the grand effect will increase in destructive power. In conclusion, I feel as though this image despite its other possible viewpoints, is an ad intended to increase national urgency about the harmful and possible detrimental effects of cigarettes and all its of cohorts.

About Me

Hey my name is Mario Marshall and I'm from a little town called Cheraw, South Carolina.  I attended Chesterfield High School located in Chesterfield, South Carolina and graduated in June of 2010.  I played football, basketball, and baseball in high school.  I have three state championship rings in football and our team went to the state championship all four years of my high school career losing my freshman year and winning the rest. I was also apart of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) while in high school.  I am currently a sophomore at Clemson University and as of now I'm undecided for my major but that will be changing as I will be majoring in Language & International Trade in the Spanish language.  I like basketball, football, and baseball and I also like to spend time with my family which is always relaxing to me.  One thing that I hate is when people copy other people.  This is one thing that gets on my nerves because people should try to be more original when they express themselves through clothes, the way they talk, and the way they act.  Copying is the one thing that I hate the most and wish people would be more original with themselves.
